Training for a BIG swim?
Working out how to approach a channel swim can be confusing. With marathons and triathlons there are numerous books that lay out simple to understand training plans. Channel swimming is not like that. Whilst there are books on the market, there are so many variables that the one size fits all approach really doesn’t work.
If you ask others for advice, you’ll probably receive as many opinions as people you ask and some of it will conflict. Who do you listen to?
Some people acquire fears and mental barriers along the way. It can be very difficult to tell the difference between demons and real barriers. Chances are, I will have seen your barriers, real or otherwise, before and can help you resolve them.
Together we can demystify it all. My aim is to get you to the start of your swim, confident and well prepared.

Emma also runs Dover Channel Training and your physical open water training is best provided through that route. There’s no better place and the camaraderie from the group is second to none.
John had a childhood dream of swimming the English Channel. He used to swim as a child but didn’t keep it up when he left school. The dream was still there. An item on the news triggered the memory of that dream and John decided to contact a pilot and book a slot.
John then realised that he had a lot of work to do in order to make his dream come true. He booked a kick starter with me during which I watched him swim and put him in touch with a swimming coach to improve his technique. This enabled him to maintain speed over distance and remain injury free.
We talked about how to approach his pool training and he joined us in Dover. John went on to take the Event Prep package and we used this to deal with a fear of failure that emerged and this included using some hypnotherapy,
The weather was challenging during training and we reframed John’s initially negative mindset into one that saw the benefits of bad weather.
An opportunity to swim early came up and we discussed the pros and cons. John took the opportunity and 14 hours and 13 minutes after he walked into the channel in Dover he emerged from the water in France as a Channel Swimmer - a lifelong dream fulfilled.
The combination of Dover physical training, the Event Preparation package he took and someone to talk through options with was a winning combination.
I had a fear a real fear. You challenged that fear. The fear left.

For specific problems we typically begin with a consultation on the telephone or Skype. This is followed by one or two sessions face-to-face or on Skype and followed up with ongoing support if necessary.

This approach to changing your life is not analytical and does not involve weeks or months of talking about the past. Instead we establish what you want and use hypnosis to help you get it.
I can use hypnosis on its own or in conjunction with Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) techniques to find the most effective solution to your challenge. For some people a single session is all that is required, for others you’ll need a few sessions to deal with the issue or other issues that become apparent. If I do not think I can help you I will let you know and, if I can, refer you to someone who might be able to.
